I'm done looking

So, after many tastings, one shockingly horrible, the venue choice has been narrowed down to two contestants. The first, the Chautauqua Dining Hall, is an amazing historic location in the middle of a park backing up into the mountains, with views of the flatirons.

It's food is probably okay, parking will be very problematic, and it's at least a few thousand over budget.

The second, the Red Lion Restaurant, has really spectacular food in a rather oddly laid out place nestled just up Boulder Canyon. While a little strange — and I mean beyond being very German — it comes in just under budget.

Any opinions?

I took a look at the website for each location, reviews and Google Maps views.

1. Red Lion appears to have a stuffed, dead cougar. Is there anything more romantic?

2. Both locations seem to have quite striking settings but Chautauqua is the clear winner, correct? Those mountain views are fantastic. What time of year will the wedding be? The beauty of Red Lion might be more dependent on greenery?

3. Chautauqua has some gag factor going on. The slogan on their menu is "The Most American Thing in America." Seriously? Also, they wrote the top three reviews on Citysearch for their own establishment. Fake reviews are not difficult to detect and theirs are particularly obvious.

1. There's not only a stuffed cougar, but a lynx skin, a bear skin, a bear head, a mountain goat head, and some antlers. Luckily the dead animals are mostly contained to the bar. They do specialize in wild game, and it is very Colorado, but, yes, a little much.

2. The setting for Chautauqua is definitely better. The Red Lion gets a short pretty drive up the canyon, and then some creekside cuteness, but nothing like Chautauqua. Wedding would be late May, so greenery, but not many flowers.

3. Apparently that's a quote from Teddy Roosevelt about the Chautauqua movement, so it's kinda forgivable.

Both places would involve outdoor tents, it just really great food for cheaper, or a really great location with questionable food for more.

Also, you can't actually see the flatirons from the parking lot where they pitch the wedding tent at Chautauqua.
